Don Stuart
Don graduated in Architecture from The University of British Columbia in 1980, and became a member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia in 1982.
Upon graduation in 1980, he joined Arthur Erickson Architects and was a member of the design teams for the Waterfront Centre Office Complex in Vancouver, the Fintas Centre Retail/Office/Residential Complex in Kuwait, and the 500 bed City Hospital project in Saskatoon. He also participated in the B.C. Place Master Planning Study for the post-Expo development of the north shore of False Creek in Vancouver.
Projects where Don assumed responsibility for coordination of Engineering Sub consultants include: The Harbour Steps project in Seattle, USA, a mixed use development which included a 350 room luxury hotel, retail space, and a luxury condominium tower; the Science Halls, a planetarium and science centre in Riyadh for the Saudi Arabian National Centre for Science and Technology; the Kuwait Insurance Company complex, a high rise office project in Kuwait; and Monte Bre, a luxury residential development in West Vancouver.
Don was Project Architect for a weekend residence for former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, and for the Keevil Residence, a 2 million dollar renovation to one of Vancouver's finest old homes.
In 1986 Don left AEA to become an Associate and office manager for William McCreery Architects. Here he supervised a variety of commercial, industrial, and residential projects including the 60-unit Augustine Gardens condominium project, and the office renovations for Equity Magazine, both in Vancouver.
In 1988 Don joined Campus Consortium Consultants Ltd. as a senior designer for the King Abdul Aziz University project in Saudi Arabia, a new university for 20,000 students. He was responsible for schematic design of the campuses Athletic Complex, and Student Dining Halls.
Don formed Don Stuart Architect Inc. in 1990. Commissions undertaken include: numerous private residences in the Vancouver and Whistler areas; a master planning study, new entrance and ticketing facilities, and an Interpretive Centre for the Capilano Suspension Bridge Theme Park; a 64-unit residential tower in New Westminster; a riverfront restaurant & condominium complex in Port Coquitlam B.C., a competition winning master plan for a 200 unit housing development on Vancouver Island; and the restoration of 409-413 West Hastings - one of Vancouver's oldest heritage buildings.
Don Stuart Architect Inc is a member of the Canadian Green Building Council and Don is an accredited LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) professional.
Don lives with his family in West Vancouver. He is an avid skier and also enjoys mountain biking, scuba diving, and trying to keep up with his children. Travel, and the arts in general, are lifelong passions.
